About Me
Hara Hara Mahadev! My name is Gopaal Krishna Shah, and I am an experienced Indian percussion artist, proudly continuing the musical legacy passed down to me by my father, the late and great Bippin Shah — a renowned music teacher and musician celebrated across India and the West for his extraordinary talent. His unwavering guidance and mentorship have been the cornerstone of my musical journey.

From the age of 8, I was immersed in the rhythms of traditional Indian music, and today, I am honored to share this rich art form with the next generation. I have been teaching children of all skill levels for many years, offering patient, joyful instruction that connects deeply with each student’s unique rhythm and spirit.
In addition to teaching, I have had the honor of working as a playback percussionist with legendary Bollywood artists such as Kavita Krishnamurthy, Suresh Wadekar, Bappi Lahiri, Manhar Udhas, Sharda Rajan Iyengar, Mohammad Salamat, and Poonam Bhati.

When I am not teaching or recording, I regularly travel between India and the United States for live performances, always eager to connect with new communities and share the joy of rhythm.

Currently, I am in the process of opening my own in-person percussion school called Soor Taal, where students will be able to experience in-depth, traditional instruction in a nurturing and vibrant environment.

I am excited to partner with Hindu Homeschool to offer online percussion classes in English, Hindi, and Gujarati, opening the door for students all over the world to learn and enjoy the beauty of modern Indian percussion.

I look forward to welcoming students worldwide to my classes and helping you or your child discover the powerful, joyful world of Indian music!
My Classes
In my online tabla classes at Hindu Homeschool, I specialize in working with children ages 7 and up, focusing on both beginner and intermediate levels. Students must have their own tabla instruments and be committed to regular practice outside of class to truly benefit from our lessons.

My goal is to create a welcoming space where students not only develop the technical skills needed to play tabla with confidence, but also experience the emotional and spiritual depth that music brings into our lives. Through dedication and heartfelt practice, we connect to something much greater than rhythm alone — we cultivate discipline, joy, and a deeper love for the sacred art of Indian percussion.
